ATTENTION PROPERTY MANAGERS
Homeowners with foil insulation installed under the federal rebate scheme can now register for their government-funded safety inspection.
Master Electricians Australia CEO Malcolm Richards urged all home owners with foil installed under the federal scheme to register for their safety inspection.
"The concerns about foil insulation have been well documented, and all Australians would be aware of the risk of injury or even death as a result of poor-quality installation," Mr Richards said.
"People with foil insulation should ensure they have the inspections conducted as soon as possible.
"Accredited Master Electricians are available to conduct inspections straight away. Mr Richards urged home owners with foil insulation not to go into their ceilings or attempt to check the safety of the installation themselves.
"Incorrect installations have caused a number of injuries and deaths, and reports are emerging of hundreds of homes across Australia where the insulation has become live through contact with electrical fittings.
"As recently as yesterday afternoon, an accredited Master Electrician has identified a ceiling in a Brisbane home with 80 volts running through the foil, which had been stapled through electrical cables in a number of places.
"So it is vital that home owners get these inspections done as quickly as possible, and do not take any risks with electrical safety."
